5 of the Best Things to do in Luxembourg You Can’t Miss

Nestled between Germany, Belgium and France, this small European country is often overlooked by travellers exploring the continent.

But if you want to get off the beaten track, Luxembourg won't disappoint. It's full of medieval castles, quaint towns and tons of history that make the last remaining Grand Duchy in the World a must-visit.

If you're unsure of what to add to your itinerary, here are some of the best things to do in Luxembourg!

1.Step Back into Time and Go Castle Hopping

One of the best things to do in Luxembourg is to explore the castles. The country is home to beautiful medieval architecture that will steal the heart of any history buff.

The Vianden Castle is the most famous castle in Luxembourg and is located 50 km from the city. It was built over 300 years ago and is one of the largest Gothic castles in Europe. Restored in 1977 after falling into disrepair and is now one of the most important monuments of its kind.

2. Try Delicious Luxembourg Food

Luxembourg is home to 12 Michelin starred restaurants, making it a top destination for foodies.

It boasts plenty of iconic national dishes as well as delicious international cuisine from around the world.

While you're in the country, try Kniddelen, it's one of the most common local recipes and is pan-fried flour dumplings served with bacon and cream. Another popular option for meat eaters is Judd mat Gaardebounen. It's a collar of pork served with broad beans.

3. Visit the Many Museums

Luxembourg is full of interesting museums, art galleries and other cultural highlights. In the city centre, you'll find the Museum of Modern Art, home to one of the world's best collections of contemporary art.

The Luxembourg City History Museum is also worth a visit. It has exhibitions on the country's architectural diversity as well as it's history as a nation since the 10th century.

Further afield, many castles have been transformed into cultural centres. One of the best examples if Clairvaux, a former chateau that now houses a museum dedicated to WWII and a photography exhibition called "the Family of Man."

4. Explore The Gorges of Mullerthal

If you want to get out of the city for a few hours, head to Luxembourg "Little Switzerland". It boasts a spectacular hilly landscape and some scenic hiking trails.

The most popular attraction in the region is Bergdorf. It's a high point with paths weaving past caves, and crevices before reaching its summit that overlooks the valleys of Black Ernz, the Sure, and Aeschbach.
