Explore the Amazon

Yaku Amazon Lodge & Expeditions is a small and intimate rainforest lodge located in the heart of the Peruvian Amazon where your unique adventure awaits you! The lodge is located within the Tamshiyacu – Tahuayo Reserve, and also adjacent to the buffer zone of the Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve, a protected area of Amazon floodplain (the second largest in South America with 2,080,000 hectares), and one of the highlights of the Peruvian Amazon. Located far away from Iquitos, Peru in one of the black water oxbow lakes along the Yanayacu River at 140 km (87 miles), they are also one hour from the unique and remarkable birthplace of the Mighty Amazon.

Yaku Amazon Lodge in collaboration with the village of Ayacucho, preserves and protects the environment in the area to maintain a pristine forest and lakes filled with diverse flora and fauna. Local rangers patrol the area, protecting the trees and animals. The huge area around the lodge is exclusive to their guests. Because of this, there is much to see and experience that is unique. There are birds, particularly the Wattled Curassow that was thought to be extinct at one time. A short walk behind the lodge takes you to a lake, where they find the largest fresh water fish on the planet – Arapaima gigas, the monstrous fruit eating piranha, the Tambaqui, growing to a meter long (39 inches) and 30 kilograms (70 pounds), along with electric eels. Within our area there are jaguars, monkeys (squirrel, howler, capuchin, etc.), sloths, capybara, poisonous and nonpoisonous snakes, dolphins, caimans, piranha, insects, etc.

In December, guests may have a unique real world experience to participate in communal work. The community gathers to catch hundreds of the one-meter long fruit eating Tambaqui and one three-meter long brightly colored Arapaima fish. This benefits the community as the fish are shared, eaten and sold. This occurs only once a year to allow for sustainability.

Activities within the Tamshiyacu – Tahuayo Reserve, day by day Itinerary, flexible programs and adventure, site for research studies, etc. The observation of monkeys, caimans, birds, pink and grey dolphins, and piranhas are guaranteed! Animals are not shown in captivity. Specialized tours for birding and fishing are available.

In october 2018 I stayed in the lodge for the second time. Because I liked it so much the first time I wantrd to see more of the beautiful rainforest. And the Yaku lodge is the perfect location, in the middle of the rainforest with a beautiful lake. Sitting on your balcony you see plenty of birds onbthe lake. In the trees around the lodge you can see monkeys most of the time. Victor and his team do everything to make you feel welcome. For me the second time it felt like home. The trips with Victor and Donaldo as guides are great. And In 2018 I saw different wildlife than in 2017, like the capibara, tree frogs, a flock of hoatzins and many beautiful butterflies. And the food is great as well. Delicious meals with ingedients and flavours of the forest and fresh fish from the lake or river that is caught on the trip on the way back to the lodge. Sounds like paradise isn’t?
