Then pack your bags and get ready for an adventure like no other! Seeing endangered gorillas in Africa is one of the continents top experiences.

From Rwanda all the way to Gabon, there's a destination to see these creatures in the wild to suit every kind of budget.

Here are four of the best places to see gorillas in Africa!

1. Rwanda

Rwanda is the most famous gorilla trekking country in Africa.

Dian Fossey's conversation work and Gorillas in the Mist helped save these creatures from extinction and force Rwanda to crack down on poaching.

These days, the gorillas live a peaceful life inside the Volcanoes National Park. If you visit in the rainy season, the treks will be harder due to the steep muddy slopes, and you may have to go further into the jungle to find a group.

Rwanda is also the most expensive country in Africa for gorilla trekking. However, group sizes are kept small, and the national park goes through great pains to ensure the experience is ethical and safe for both human and ape.

2. Uganda

If you're short on cash, the next best destination to see gorillas in Africa is Uganda.

Head to Bwindi Forest National Park or Mgahinga National Park for a chance to get up close with these incredible creatures.

Trekking from the Uganda side is considered the hardest option. The groups are often quite high in the mountains and also cross over into the DRC.

The Bwindi gorillas are also considered to be a subspecies of eastern gorilla due to the lack of hair on their brows.

 

3. Congo DR

The Congo DR offers the cheapest gorilla trekking options out of the three countries. The country is also home to three of the four subspecies of mountain gorillas, and it's a great option if tours are sold out in Rwanda or Uganda.

The gorillas are found inside Kahuzi Biega National Park. You can base yourself in Bukavu or sign up for a transfer from Kigali, Rwanda to the DRC.

While the region is not as unsettled as it was in the past, it's always a good idea to check security conditions before booking your trip.

 

4. Gabon

 

Looking for something off the beaten track? Go see gorillas in Gabon.

The country as 13 national parks that are home to these creatures. While there aren't any gorilla trekking tours, you can go on a safari type adventure.

The most popular place to visit is the Moukalaba Doudou National Park. It's known for its ecotourism and commitment to gorilla conservation in the area.

Another option is Loango National Park. Located along the coast, you'll be able to spot gorillas, forest elephants, chimpanzees and even dolphins swimming along the shore.
