1. BANJA LUKA
Banja Luka is the second largest city in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the largest city of Republika Srpska, of which it is also the de facto capital. Banja Luka is the traditional centre of the densely-forested Bosanska Krajina region of northwestern Bosnia.
2. BLAGAJ
The historic village Blagaj is a protected heritage site in Bosnia and Herzegovina and located in the south-eastern region of the Mostar basin, in the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton. Blagaj is situated at the spring of the Buna river and a historical tekke (Dervish monastery). The Blagaj Tekija was built around 1520, with elements of Ottoman architecture and Mediterranean style and is considered a national monument.
3. KONJIC
Konjic is located in northern Herzegovina, around 60 kilometres (37 mi) southwest of Sarajevo, in a mountainous, heavily wooded area, and is 268 m (879 ft) above sea level. The municipality extends on both sides of the Neretva River. The city is one of the oldest permanent settlements in Bosnia and Herzegovina, dating back almost 4,000 years; it arose in its current incarnation in the late 14th century.
4. KRAVICA WATERFALL
Kravica Waterfall is a large tufa cascade on the Trebižat River, in the karstic heartland of Herzegovina. It is 10 kilometres (6 mi) south of Ljubuški and 40 kilometres (25 mi) south of Mostar. Its height is about 25 metres (80 ft) and the radius of the lake in the base of the waterfall is 120 metres (390 ft). Kravica is a popular swimming and picnic area and, during the summer, it is frequently visited by tourists.
5. MEDJUGORJE
Medjugorje has been an unofficial place of Catholic pilgrimage since the Virgin Mary allegedly appeared on Apparition Hill in 1981. There is a “Queen of Peace” statue marking the site of the 1st apparition and one in front of the St. James Church. Liquid has been said to drip from the “Risen Christ” statue near the church.
6. MOSTAR
The City of Mostar straddles the Neretva River and it is famous for the iconic Stari Most (Old Bridge), a reconstructed medieval arched bridge. The nearby alleys are full of shops and market stalls, and the Old Bridge Museum explores the bridge’s long history. A narrow staircase leads up to the Koski Mehmed-Pasha Mosque’s minaret for panoramic city views.
7. SARAJEVO
Sarajevo, capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, is a compact city on the Miljacka River, surrounded by the Dinaric Alps. Its center has museums commemorating local history, including Sarajevo 1878–1918, which covers the 1914 assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, an event that sparked World War I. Landmarks of the old quarter, Bašcaršija, include the Ottoman-era Gazi Husrev-bey Mosque.
8. SUTJESKA NATIONAL PARK
The National Park Sutjeska was established in 1962 and it is Bosnia and Herzegovina's oldest national park. It includes the highest peak of Maglic at over 2,386 metres (7,828 ft), on the border with Montenegro. The Montenegrin part of Maglic massif in the park has also formed the Trnovacko Jezero (Trnovacko Lake). The Strict Nature Reserve "Perucica", one of the last two remaining primeval forests in Europe, is part of the park.
9. TREBEVIC MOUNTAIN
Trebevic mountain in central Bosnia and Herzegovina is located in the territories of Sarajevo and East Sarajevo city, bordering Jahorina mountain. Trebevic is 1,627 meters (5,338 ft) high. Trebevic can be reached from Sarajevo by the Trebevic Cable Car, which starts from the neighbourhood of Bistrik.
10. TREBINJE
Trebinje is known as "the city of the sun and platan trees", and it is said to be one of the most beautiful cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The city is the economic and cultural center of the region of East Herzegovina.
11. UNA NATIONAL PARK
Una National Park was established on 29 May 2008 around the rivers Upper Una River, Krka and the Unac. It is Bosnia and Herzegovina's largest national park. The main purpose of the park is to protect the unspoiled Una river and its tributaries Krka and Unac, which run through it.
12. VISEGRAD
The town, Visegrad, is located on the Drina river, next to the border with Serbia, and is famous for its iconic bridge but that's not the sole reason to visit Visegrad. The city has more to offer and is a perfect stop in any Balkan itinerary, especially if you travel from Belgrade to Sarajevo.
