When is the best time to go skiing in France?

The best time to go skiing in France all depends on what you want to get out of the experience.

Whether you're looking for the perfect winter getaway or want to hit the slopes on a budget, you'll need to choose the right month for your needs.

Here's a quick guide to help you get the most out of your trip to the French Alps!

December

If you're looking for the ultimate White Christmas holiday, head to the Alps in December! There's no better way for powder junkies to ring in the New Year than with a firework display and a torchlit descent.

But the slopes and the ski resort will be busy. If you're planning a trip during this month, book far in advance to lock in lower prices so you can enjoy the festive atmosphere and still keep your budget in check.

January

Sking

If you want to experience the Alps on a shoestring, book your trip in January.

As the high season crowds leave the slopes, you'll have better luck finding deals, and plenty of snow is guaranteed. You'll also avoid the French and UK school holidays, meaning the ski resorts will be quieter and you won't have to contend with long lift queues.

It's also the perfect time for beginners, who want a stress-free learning experience. You'll be able to book last minute ski lessons and find discounts with ski schools.

February

Skiing

February is the best month to visit if you want a good combination of warmer temperatures and regular snowfall.

There are also quite a few events that take place such as the Ladies Night Tour. Watch some of France's top female skiers compete and pick up a few tricks.

One thing to consider is that February is another high season in the Alps. There are school holidays that push prices up, and you'll need to book your hotel and any lessons in advance to ensure availability.

March

Skiing

As the weather warms up, the ski resorts once again empty out. March is another fantastic budget-friendly month to visit, and you'll be able to find great deals on hotel rates, transport and activities.

The lifts also stay open later as the nights are lighter, giving you more time on the slopes.

Another reason to book your France ski trip for March is the Rock the Piste. It's one of the country's top events and is the only high-altitude music festival in the world.

April

France

April is the end of France's ski season. You'll find plenty of sales on skis, boards, boots and clothing, making it a great time of year to visit if you want to stock up on new gear.

It's also a good idea if you're travelling with young kids. The snow is softer, making any falls much more forgiving. But that does mean that some runs will be more challenging due to the warm weather.
