Mountain Paradise

Mahasu House is an enchanting and exclusive hideaway nestled amidst the beautiful forests of Mashobra. A haven for those wishing to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life and experience nature on a grand scale. Mahasu House offers an opportunity to escape into the Himalayan wilderness, bask in personalized hospitality and completely rejuvenate the soul. Located at an altitude of 2400 metres (8000 feet) above sea level, Mahasu House is a 45 minute drive from Simla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh.

Mahasu House is owned by Anil Walia, a true blue Simla-ite and proud small town resident. He shakes his head in wonder when people talk of traffic, pollution and stress in big cities because he cannot imagine living away from the mountains. “Having settled in Simla in the 1935's, my grandfather built a hotel here in the late 60’s. Born a year later, I was brought up by my grandparents and have lived all my life in this beautiful mountain paradise” says Anil.

Exuding an old world charm, Mahasu House blends in beautifully with the panoramic surroundings of Mashobra. A romance of wood and stone, the interior of the hotel is lovingly crafted in classical décor. Eco friendly measures have been adopted not only in design but also in use of local materials and resources.

Mahasu House has 7 double rooms, each with en suite bathroom and verandah that serves as an outdoor sitting area. Spacious rooms (area 350 sq ft) with pine wood flooring, large picture windows, hand knotted rugs and rich furnishings provide the perfect ambience to relax and breathe in the surroundings. The Attic Room is a large double room with en suite bathroom and has a quaint high slanting roof, an absolute favourite of families traveling with children. The Mahasu Suite has two spacious double bedrooms, en suite bathroom with a dressing area and a private verandah.

Mahasu House has no menu cards. All meals are prepared home style based on what each guest wishes to eat that day. Using only the freshest of local ingredients, the kitchen is equipped to cater to a variety of tastes and can rustle up divine meals at minimal notice. Indian, Asian & Western cuisines are available. Guests can enjoy their meals on the Sundeck, Gazebo, lawn or the indoor dining area. The expansive Sundeck offers a 180 degree view across the Himalayas and also overlooks the Shaali Tibba, which at (2867m) is the highest peak in the vicinity of Shimla. The Gazebo offers an open dining area with a fire place.

The Lounge - This is an ideal place to relax with and unwind with a book, a drink or settle down to play cards or Mahjong. The Club Room - This houses the indoor entertainment area with a billiards table, table-tennis table, library, home theatre and bar-trolley.

Anytime is a good time to visit Mahasu House. Each season has its own charm and paints the surroundings in unique colours thus making Mahasu House a true all-season resort. Be it in the forest, on the river, indoors or outdoors at Mahasu House, a wide range of activities are on offer to guests.
