Quintinha São João is the perfect example of an old and indeed actual typical Madeiran Quinta. With a history passed on through the generations- with some secrets yet to be revealed, the Quinta has witnessed various goings-on prior to becoming the illustrious five star hotel with 42 rooms that you see today. The “Quintinha”, as they affectionately call it, keeps its essence full of history that can be sensed as one ambles through its gardens and various corners of the interior of the hotel.
Each room has a separate open-plan living and sleeping area, providing a place of supreme comfort. Combining the use of wooden furniture, pastel tones and natural light, the result is an atmosphere of total relaxation. From the balcony you can stare in wonder at the gardens which look as if they have been sketched and then hand painted. They will accompany you to your room on your arrival, turn down your bed every night and be on hand 24 hours each day.
The Morgadinha Restaurant serves well-seasoned dishes that enhance the flavor of the ingredients that join forces to tantalise the palate. The gastronomic journey doesn’t end here… There are regional and international dishes that make your mouth water and not a week goes by without the excitement of the long awaited Food & Wine Pairing Experience (every Saturday)!
The Vasco Da Gama Bar inside the hotel, mix the best drinks and cocktails that are just waiting for you try. Snacks, teas, Madeira Wine tasting, local “Poncha” and one of the best selection of gins are there to be sipped whilst the piano plays on… Lunch in this picturesque spot extends onto the terrace is an experience not to be missed.
