Nestled in the Shimba Hills National Reserve, in the heart of an ancient tropical rainforest, Shimba Hills Lodge is very well known for being a highlight at every Kenya visit. The Shimba Hills Lodge is the only ‘tree lodge’ within Kenya’s Coastal rain forest. An award winning design when built in 1986, it was commissioned as a coastal alternative to the famous Tree Tops. Throughout its construction emphasis was upon natural materials with cedar wood dominating resulting in a warm and relaxing interior.
Wood and other natural materials as well as the open atrium with tropical plants in the centre and open spaces throughout the lodge provide an unlimited view to the rainforest and create a unique atmosphere in which one will experience the real "Jungle Feeling"
Shimba Hills Lodge overlooks a waterhole and is a bird and animal watcher’s paradise. Dramatic black and white colobus monkeys, graceful giraffes are often seen at Shimba. For the very fortunate, the leopard will make a rare appearance. A wooden walkway extending 120m into the forest takes nature lovers to a viewing spot that allows for the unobtrusive viewing of birds and butterflies.
