Kep is a coastal province in southern Cambodia, known for its seafood and tropical islands. Kep Beach has calm waters and a promenade with large statues, while vendors line the waterfront at the nearby crab market.
KRONG PREAH SIHANOUK (99 KM/ 2 ½ HOURS FROM KRONG KAMPOT)
Sihanoukville (Khmer) Krong Preah Sihanouk), also known as "Kampong Som", is a coastal city in Cambodia and the capital of Sihanoukville Province, at the tip of an elevated peninsula in the country's south-west on the Gulf of Thailand. The city is flanked by an almost uninterrupted string of beaches along its entire coastline and coastal marshlands bordering the Ream National Park in the east. The city has one navigable river, the mangrove lined Ou Trojak Jet running from Otres Pagoda to the sea at Otres. Although Sihanoukville has developed rapidly, it has remained the kick-off point for the best of Cambodia's white-sand beaches and castaway-cool southern islands. KOH RONG (40 MIN BY FERRY FROM KRONG PREAH SIHANOUK)
Koh Rong is an island in the Sihanoukville Province of Cambodia. It’s known for its stunning sandy coves and coral reefs, like those around Koh Rong Pier. BEST TIME TO VISIT: Most travelers visit Cambodia from November to March. If you prefer to dodge the crowds and go when prices are lower, the best time to visit Cambodia is from May to early October. CURRENCY: The official currency of Cambodia is the riel (KHR), which is pegged at a value of roughly 4,000 riel to the US dollar. The rate fluctuates up and down on a daily basis, but a general conversion rate of 4,000:1 is accepted throughout Cambodia.
LANGUAGE: Khmer is now used for all official communication. English is the language of tourism and understood by many people in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Angkor Wat. In the countryside few people speak English or French.
